As England booked their place in a second consecutive European Championship final, they had one Chelsea player to thank for their late antics.

Cole Palmer came off the bench to impact proceedings in the final minutes, setting up Ollie Watkins for the winning goal of a 2-1 win over the Netherlands.

The assist saw him move above the likes of Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden in the statistic, despite the fact that he has played far few minutes than either of them.

The finish from the Aston Villa fan will give some Chelsea fans throwbacks of a game early in the season when the Blues were defeated at Stamford Bridge.

Watkins scored the only goal of the game, and Palmer said to Lions Den on YouTube that it reminded him a lot of the one that was against his side.

Palmer says Watkins goal similar to one vs Chelsea

He said: “He did one against us at Stamford Bridge remember? I weren’t on the pitch by the way.”

Malo Gusto’s dubious red card had a real effect on the Blues that day, with Mauricio Pochettino suffering a damning home loss.

It remains to be seen if either of the super subs from Wednesday night will be given more a chance to showcase their stellar individual form on the international stage against Spain.

They will be up against an in-form opponent, whose brilliance is being showcased by Chelsea star Marc Cucurella.

The left-back has taken his form for his club onto the international stage, and has shown that he can deal with the pressure that comes from being booed by the crowd during his semi-final.

With most of Palmer’s appearances for his country seeing him play on the right, there is a realistic situation where the two Chelsea players are going directly up against each other in the final of a major competition.
