Gary Lineker praised Chelsea forward Timo Werner on Tuesday night, after he opened his goalscoring account for the club with an excellent strike into the bottom corner.
Werner, 24, scored his first goal for the Blues with a powerful finish from the edge of the box against rivals Tottenham in Carabao Cup.
Despite impressing in the opening three league games of the season, the German attacker was yet to get off the mark in front of goal but he showed his quality to end that streak in midweek.

Werner’s goal put Chelsea 1-0 ahead away to Spurs inside the first-half, but the cup tie was sent to penalties after Erik Lamela equalised in the 83rd minute.
It was Spurs who advanced to the quarter-finals of the League Cup, with Mason Mount missing the decisive penalty in the shootout to give Jose Mourinho’s side the win.
Lineker did single out Chelsea star Werner on Twitter for praise during the cup defeat, claiming he’s “looked the sharpest” of all the club’s new signings at the beginning of the season.
Edouard Mendy and Ben Chilwell are two of the new summer additions that both started in the cup loss, while marquee signing Kai Havertz was rested on the bench.
Werner completed 90 minutes against Spurs and the versatile attacker was used as a left-winger by manager Frank Lampard, but he was seen popping up all over the pitch to get involved in play.
The speedster will be relieved to score his first goal with a brilliant finish and there is real reason for fans to be excited about his Stamford Bridge future, as his threat has been far great than his goal output so far.
