Cristian Romero shares what he now thinks of Enzo Fernandez after Tottenham vs Chelsea game

There will be no bad blood between Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero and Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez during this international break.

Cristian Romero and Enzo Fernandez were both involved in a fiery game between Tottenham and Chelsea, where the former was sent off after a bad tackle on the latter, and are currently with the Argentina squad.

But Romero has now told El Doce that there are no issues between him and Fernandez and that whatever happens on the pitch, stays on the pitch.

Tottenham were made to pay for Romero’s reckless challenge, which also resulted in a Chelsea penalty. The Blues went on to score their spot-kick and win the match 4-1.

No bad blood between Cristian Romero and Enzo Fernandez

Romero’s tackle on Fernandez was not a great one, while the 25-year-old would have hated losing to his compatriot and London rivals. However, he says they are still on good terms.

Speaking to El Doce, Romero said: “Always happy and happy to return to the national team, what I love the most and what I enjoy so much.

“Obviously everything is fine. They are things that happen in the game, they remain there, always.”

Romero and Fernandez will be team-mates over this international break, but the two will go up against each other again when Chelsea take on Tottenham in February.

Hopefully Romero takes it a bit easier and is calmer with his tackling. The challenge on Fernandez was an appalling one, with Anton Ferdinand labelling him a “disgrace” for it.

The Argentina international is such an aggressive defender, though. It is not in his nature to be calm.

We would not be surprised, then, if another Chelsea player was on the receiving end of a crunching Romero tackle when these two sides meet again.

But it is just a part of football. If no one gets seriously injured and Mauricio Pochettino‘s men go on to win the London derby, Chelsea fans will not be too bothered about Romero’s combative style.
