‘Cutting in on his left side’: Coach believes Chelsea may now have signed their next Arjen Robben

Chelsea might just have uncovered the heir to Arjen Robben’s iconic thrown.

This is according to Saul Isaksson-Hurst, who told Sky Sports that Noni Madueke has similarities to that of the former Stamford Bridge winger.

Isaksson-Hurt is well placed to comment on Madueke, having worked with the attacker on an individual basis as technical coach for the past two years.

He has helped the England international transition into an exciting, enigmatic and engaging forward, who’s talents earned him a move to Chelsea earlier in January

The 20-year-old left PSV Eindhoven for the dizzying heights of the Premier League and a return to the city he previously hailed from.

Madueke departed the Tottenham Hotspur academy for Holland in 2018, with revenge possibly on the mind when the two London rivals meet again in just under a months’ time.

Graham Potter hasn’t had a chance to pick the PSV prodigy yet, having only officially added him to his squad six days ago.

But an appearance, or even a start, is reportedly on the horizon for the new signing.

Fans will be waiting with bated breath to see Madueke in action.

Anticipation that will be heightened following Isaksson-Hurts review of his pupil.

“Noni is an attacking wide player who likes to play on the right as an inverted winger, so one of his ‘super skills’ is cutting in on his left side, like Arjen Robben, and shooting from the edge of the box,” he said.

“You see when Robben played, defenders would overcompensate to make sure he didn’t get them on the inside, but that opens up a lot of space on the outside, and we worked a lot on that, going in and then going out again, onto his weaker foot.”

If Madueke can replicate even a portion of what Robben achieved at Chelsea, he will be recognised amongst supporters as something of a cult hero.

Robben ripped it up in blue, following his transfer from PSV in 2004.

He only played 106 times under Jose Mourinho, but established himself as one of the finest wingers to ever grace the club.

His wing combination with Damien Duff made Chelsea a force to be feared from all angles.

Potter will be hoping to achieve similar success with Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix, Hakim Ziyech, Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic patrolling the wide areas.
