Scott Minto was really impressed by the individual performance from Chelsea’s Noni Madueke in the cup win tonight against AFC Wimbledon.

The Blues had to come from behind to eventually beat their League Two opponents 2-1 in the Carabao Cup second round tie.

James Tilley’s penalty inside the opening 20 minutes gave visitors AFC Wimbledon a shock lead at Stamford Bridge. However, Madueke equalised from the penalty spot with his own spot-kick just before half time.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side eventually booked their spot in the third round of the domestic cup when Enzo Fernandez came off the bench and scored his first goal for the club with a shot from distance.

TalkSPORT pundit Minto believes Noni Madueke made a really positive impression during his first start of the season.

The 21-year-old attacker caused a real threat as the right-winger with his pace and directness. Also, his dribbling into the box secured the penalty that he put away himself.

“I talked about how Madueke was the most dangerous player for Chelsea going forward. Again, he picked up the ball, turned Ryan Johnson, and got into the box… Brilliant play from him,” Minto told talkSPORT 2 (8:30pm, 30 August).

Minto later added (9:03pm): “He is without doubt the best player on the pitch.”

Madueke’s not had much action in the opening weeks of the season, so this was a timely reminder of what he brings to the squad.

The English attacker can certainly bring skill, pace and directness to the forward line.

We fully expect he’ll be pushing hard for a spot in Pochettino’s starting line-up ahead of this weekend’s Premier League fixture at home to Nottingham Forest.

Frank Lampard previously said on Steven Bartlett’s ‘Diary of a CEO’ podcast that Madueke can have a big future in Chelsea colours.

The left-footer can take confidence on a personal basis tonight and the Blues move forward from a fairly mediocre cup performance against lower league opposition.
