TalkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy has explained why he thinks Chelsea and England star Cole Palmer may be a little “disappointed” right now.
Cole Palmer has had a very interesting start to his second season as a Chelsea player.
The 22-year-old attacker has been in sensational form for the Blues in the opening months of the campaign. So far, he’s scored six goals and created five assists in seven Premier League appearances.
His club form led to him starting both England games during this international break in the Nations League. He wasn’t quite able to deliver his best in the defeat to Greece and the victory over Finland.
However, speaking via Football365 this week, Paul Gascogine raved about the quality of Chelsea’s Palmer.

Danny Murphy expected more from Cole Palmer
Danny Murphy believes that Chelsea’s Palmer will feel a little upset with the level of his England performances in the last week.
In defence of the Blues star, we didn’t see him lining up in the No 10 position, where he’s been outrageously good this season.
Murphy told talkSPORT: “I think probably Palmer will be a little bit disappointed with his performance the other night [against Finland]. He’s set himself such ridiculously high standards, of course. We were all expecting that little bit more in the last couple of games from him.”
Chelsea need their best players in form for upcoming fixtures
On paper, Chelsea are about to enter an extremely difficult run of league games straight after the break. There’s no doubt that Enzo Maresca’s side will need to be at their best to build on a decent start to the season, which currently puts them fourth in the division table.

Palmer actually had a great record last season against the teams above. He wasn’t involved in either of Chelsea’s league fixtures with Liverpool last year, but he scored against all of Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal at least once.
It was unusual to see Palmer fairly quiet on a football pitch during his minutes with England, but we certainly wouldn’t pin the blame on just him.
Thankfully, the left-footed playmaker still thrives in Chelsea colours and is the main man for his club side.
