Danny Murphy is completely shocked by Mauricio Pochettino’s decision-making when it comes to Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell.
Mauricio Pochettino, who’s slowly settling into life as Chelsea’s head coach, is trying to bring his ideas and philosophy to Stamford Bridge.
However, some of his choices in the opening few games of the season have raised a few eyebrows. In particular, how Ben Chilwell is being used in the starting line-up.
We’ve seen for years Chilwell thrive in the Premier League as a left-back or left wing-back, but Pochettino’s current system means he’s spending a lot of time high up the pitch as a traditional winger.
There’s certainly been a couple of incidents already where the £45million man (BBC) has looked like a defender playing in attack.

Murphy can’t quite believe how Pochettino has deployed Chilwell so far at Chelsea.
“Chilwell left wing. What’s going on here? He’s a left-back. I’m shocked,” Murphy told FIVE’s YouTube channel.

Chilwell has shown he’s a useful player going forward and he suits running from deep to join in with attacks.
However, many supporters can’t quite comprehend why he’s occupying such an advanced role when the likes of Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk were all on the bench during last weekend’s Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest.
We would much prefer Chelsea to move back to a 4-2-3-1 system with Chilwell starting at left-back. That would allow an extra forward spot for one of the young attackers with a lot of potential.
