Danny Murphy urges Mauricio Pochettino to pick 22-year-old Chelsea player he’s not started yet

Danny Murphy really wants Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino to select Mykhailo Mudryk to start a run of games.

Mykhailo Mudryk, who’s played in three of Chelsea’s opening five games this season, has been used as an impact substitute so far. His wait for a first start under Pochettino goes on, though.

The 22-year-old attacker is still carrying the weight of the pressure that comes from scoring zero goals in his first 20 Blues appearances.

It’s not been an easy start for the left-winger since his arrival in January, but he’ll hope things can turn around under the new head coach.

Murphy is urging Chelsea’s manager to get Mudryk into the starting XI after the international break and give him several consecutive starts.

“When you look at Mudryk, they spent big money on him… His first game at Anfield you saw what he can do,” Murphy told FIVE’s YouTube channel.

“The worst thing you can do when you’ve got a new player is delay his opportunity and make it bigger than it is. You’ve got to give new players a run

“Now, they need a left-winger to play instead of where Chilly (Chilwell) is playing because he’s a left-back.

“Give him five or six games! See.”

Our view is Chelsea need a change of formation post-international break to accommodate another forward-thinking player.

The likes of Cole Palmer or Noni Madueke may be more deserving starts to fit into the XI, but we may only get the best from Mudryk if he does get regular starts and the chance to build momentum.
