Darren Bent has praised Chelsea’s first-team star by claiming that the television cameras don’t always pick up how much running he gets through each game.
There’s a number of players in the Chelsea squad that have played very well in the first few months of the 2024/25 season. As a result, the Blues sit third in the Premier League table going into a busy December schedule.
It feels like Enzo Maresca has very quickly got this group pulling in the right direction since he took charge as the Chelsea manager in the summer.

Darren Bent praises Nicolas Jackson’s movement
During an appearance on Ben Foster’s YouTube channel, Darren Bent has singled out Chelsea frontman Nicolas Jackson for his improvement and incredible work rate.
Enzo Maresca thinks Chelsea’s Jackson was superb against Leicester City during Saturday’s 2-1 victory, particularly for his contribution without the ball.
Bent claims that the 23-year-old Blues striker looks much better in front of goal during his second season at Stamford Bridge. Also, he said that the cameras don’t show how much movement and running he does every single match.
When discussing Chelsea star Jackson, Bent said: “I think he’s getting better and better. He scored a lot of goals last season… This year, he looks like he’s got a bit more composure in front of goal. I think if you look at last season he’d go through quite a lot, but couldn’t really finish. The two goals at West Ham were really nice finishes. The goal at the weekend against Leicester, fantastic little touch and outside the boot. Beautiful finish.
“I just think he gives you so much. What you don’t see maybe on camera is how many runs he makes. He’s always on the shoulder. They look at him and they don’t really play it. He does get the pass every now and then. For every pass he gets, he probably makes about eight runs. It’s scary how many times he’s on the shoulder. I’m a big fan of his.”
Maresca has been working hard with Jackson in Chelsea training when it comes to his finishing. It’s clear that the hard work is paying off because he’s got seven goals in 12 Premier League matches this term.
On top of the steady flow of goals, the Senegal international leads the line so effectively for his club side with his all-round movement and high energy.
Nicolas Jackson climbing Chelsea’s goalscorers list
Jackson has scored more Premier League goals than Hernan Crespo for Chelsea after his strike versus Leicester at the weekend. In fact, he’s quickly climbing up the goalscoring charts for the Blues.
As it stands, the starting forward has 21 goals in England’s top division. That puts him joint-24th for Chelsea’s all-time scorers in the Premier League.
Here is a look at the players Jackson is chasing down:
| Premier League Goals for Chelsea | Players |
| 147 | Frank Lampard |
| 104 | Didier Drogba |
| 85 | Eden Hazard |
| 69 | Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink |
| 59 | Gianfranco Zola |
| 54 | Eidur Gudjohnsen |
| 52 | Diego Costa |
| 41 | John Terry |
| 38 | Nicolas Anelka |
| 37 | Willian |
| 36 | John Spencer, Gustavo Poyet, Salomon Kalou |
| 35 | Florent Malouda |
| 34 | Tore Andre Flo |
| 33 | Dennis Wise |
| 29 | Cole Palmer, Pedro |
| 27 | Mason Mount, Joe Cole |
| 25 | Mark Hughes, Marcos Alonso |

If Jackson can continue with his form this season, he’ll start to climb this list at a rapid rate. Finally, Chelsea appear to have found a reliable goalscorer to lead the line again.
