Darren Bent says who’s now under more pressure out of Enzo Maresca and Ruben Amorim

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca and Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim went head-to-head last weekend.

It was the latter who came out on top, with United managing to beat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Maresca and his team really had a game to forget, going down to 10 men in the fifth minute following Robert Sanchez’s red card.

Tony Cascarino has highlighted Moises Caicedo’s role in Sanchez’s sending off, but the goalkeeper has to take most of the blame for his dismissal.

Ruben Amorim still under more pressure than Enzo Maresca despite win against Chelsea

All in all, it was a big win for Amorim, but Bent does not think it changes much. And for the former Premier League striker, he is still under much more pressure than his Chelsea counterpart.

When asked who is feeling the heat more, Bent said: “Amorim. Amorim’s got more pressure because he’s got nothing to show since he’s been there. Maresca can at least go, ‘Well, listen, we’ve got two trophies’.

“I know at Chelsea maybe that doesn’t really count for a lot, certainly in the old regime it doesn’t count for anything really. But he could at least go, ‘Well, you know what, give me a bit of time, I’ll get it right. We’ve won the Club World Cup, we’ve won the Conference League. I will get it right’.”

Maresca’s Club World Cup and Conference League credit will run out eventually, though. After another summer of heavy spending, many will be expecting Chelsea to deliver in the Premier League this season.

Before Chelsea played United, Bent talked up Sanchez, stating that the Spaniard was starting to win him over.

But after his latest error, Bent is likely to start having doubts about Sanchez again.

Who will last longer?

Chelsea have spent too much money for the team to be losing against the worst United side in Premier League history.

Dropping points away at Brentford in the manner that they did was not a good look either. Ultimately, Maresca is going to be under the microscope if things do not improve.

As Bent mentioned, though, the 45-year-old has a couple of trophies next to his name. Amorim, in contrast, has nothing and is having a torrid time at United.

Had United lost to Chelsea, it would not have been a surprise if the Portuguese was dismissed. Everything is pointing towards Maresca outlasting Amorim, who is quite fortunate to still be in a job.
