Darren Bent shares strong opinion on whether Chelsea fans are going to start supporting Manchester City now

Darren Bent provided a theory about Chelsea fans following the club’s attempts to get the FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough game played behind closed doors.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent suggested followers of the Blues would not change allegiance, despite the quite despicable actions of the hierarchy.

Chelsea versus Middlesbrough muddle up

Chelsea released a statement yesterday, stating that no away tickets would be available for Saturday’s game at the Riverside Stadium.

The European champions are not allowed to sell anything that could end up in Roman Abramovich’s pocket after the UK government froze his assets.

The announcement went on to say they had made a request to empty the stadium, as a way to level the playing field in the absence of their own supporters.

They wanted this organised as a matter of ‘sporting integrity.’

Understandably, this was met by an almighty backlash from across the sporting community.

Are the Champions League holders really complaining about playing one match without a few hundred singing their name?

After just a few hours, the Blues sheepishly withdrew their demand, running back to the drawing board with tail firmly pressed between legs.

Even some of a Chelsea persuasion must’ve been dismayed by the chain of command’s thoughtlessness towards Boro.

After everything that’s happened in the past fortnight, the last thing they need is to become a social media laughing stock.

Changing the Chelsea badge to something else

Andy Goldstein even offered up the scenario where some donning blue might turn to another team for comfort.

“Do you think there are any Chelsea fans, young or old, thinking ‘I’ve had enough of Chelsea, I’m going to change whilst I still can’,” asked Goldstein.

“No chance. I think you will get Chelsea fans that are disgusted, embarrassed, disappointed in their football club, but you won’t find one Chelsea fan who will think ‘Nah’,” replied Bent insistently.

“You might get some that say, ‘I’m not going to watch Chelsea for a little while. I’m going to support my local team.

“But you are not going to get a Chelsea fan that’s going to go, ‘I’m done with Chelsea, I’m going to (Manchester) City’.”

Taking the glory hunting route would mean banishment from the Chelsea family, one that’s more dysfunctional than any other in the land.

But few could be blamed for wanting to distance themselves from the Blues at the moment.

Just when you thought events couldn’t get any worse, another damming declaration takes centre stage.
