David Ornstein shares what he’s heard about Kai Havertz at Arsenal, it was the exact same at Chelsea

Kai Havertz has a real target on his back following his move from Chelsea to Arsenal in the summer.

Arsenal paid Chelsea £65million (Sky Sports) to sign the German attacker, so two goals in 20 games across all competitions so far this season represents a slow start for him.

However, the 24-year-old did score a late winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Brentford at the weekend. It’s the type of moment that could help him really lift off at the Emirates Stadium.

Behind the scenes

Well-respected journalist David Ornstein has delivered some interesting comments about Kai Havertz.

Apparently, the forward has quickly settled in North London and has shown a fantastic attitude with his work ethic since arriving at Arsenal. The way he applies himself off the pitch was exactly the same at Chelsea, too.

Speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, Ornstein said: “There is a very different perception in the public to the reality in private. What people see of Havertz behind the scenes and how they are working to make him most effective.

“Don’t forget he is learning a new role, at a new club, with a new group of players who have pretty much solidified their way of playing last season and he comes into it. It is going to take some time. But I think everything I hear suggests that firstly he is ultra committed and dedicated and football obsessed to get this right and work with the coaches.

“And furthermore his attitude behind the scenes and the application that he puts in, his conduct – which is something I heard at Chelsea as well – is beyond reproach.

“He really is a very popular character with players and staff and away from the pitch throughout his career he has worked with physios for his recovery and condition and things like that.”

Kai Havertz a grafter

For all the criticism he receives from supporters, Havertz’s attitude shouldn’t be something that comes under question.

He was a constant source of frustration for the Chelsea fanbase because he could never find any consistency on the pitch despite obvious talent.

Now, it’s on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to solve the Havertz puzzle.

Speaking in an interview with Bleacher Report recently, Havertz admitted that he wanted to make the move to Arsenal as soon as possible in the summer.

We wish the best to a player that scored the winning goal in a Champions League final for Chelsea.
