Chelsea defender Reece James continued with his rise to the top on Thursday night by earning his third senior England cap and he’s a youngster that just appears to keep improving.
The 20-year-old is striving to be a top-class talent at right-back and he’s already finding some real consistent form for Chelsea, plus he’s now impressing on the international scene as well.
He helped England beat Republic of Ireland 3-0 in a friendly, but is unfortunately unavailable for the two imminent Nations League matches through suspension.
The attack-minded full-back suited a right wing-back position against Ireland by showing his threat going forward and he should be regarded as one of the best crossers in the Premier League.
It’s his defensive work that is taking giant strides forward now too, as he’s solid in a back four for the Blues and even filled in at the end of the England fixture at centre-back.
The all-action powerhouse is a talent to come through the club’s acsemdy and expectations were high after his eye-caching loan at Wigan Athletic in the 2018/19 season, but not many would have predicted he would have made such a huge step up in the 18 months that have followed.
James posted on Instagram after his international performance, which promoted a response from ex-Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot and also West Ham’s Declan Rice.
