Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has had his say about the upcoming Champions League quarter-final clashes with Real Madrid.

This will be the third consecutive year that Chelsea and Real Madrid face each other in Europe’s most prestigious competition.

Chelsea came out victorious in their first encounter in the 2020/21 semifinals after a rather comfortable 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid got their revenge last season as they prevented what could have been a dramatic comeback win for Chelsea at Santiago Bernabeu.

The winners of their ties ended up winning the competition in the last two seasons, and this may be the case again this time.

Loftus-Cheek admitted that Real Marid are almost always at their best in the Champions League, but he is confident that Chelsea can put up a fight.

“It’s a test for us and we know what Madrid are like in this competition,” the midfielder told Chelsea’s official website.

“Regardless of what they’re doing in their own league, they always seem to step up in the Champions League.

“But we held our own against them last season and we were unlucky to go out really, considering where we were late in the game.

“It was just some quality that they brought at the end of the game, and they showed that through all the stages, so it was their season last season.

“But definitely we are not going to roll over easily.”

Despite their disappointing Premier League season, Graham Potter’s Chelsea side have actually done really well in the Champions League.

Bear in mind that Borussia Dortmund had been on an 11-game winning run before Chelsea put an end to to it earlier this month.
