Roberto Di Matteo has raved about the quality of Chelsea star Jorginho, who he believes must be a “delight” for any manager to work with.

Jorginho, 29, has had an amazing time lately that’s resulted in him being named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year.

First of all, the £110,000-a-week defensive midfielder was part of a Blues side that won the Champions League back in May.

He then followed that up by winning Euro 2020 with Italy this summer.

The deep-lying playmaker has had his fair share of criticism over the years from supporters, but he appears to be in the form of his life right now.

Di Matteo, who managed the first Chelsea side to win the Champions League back in 2012, has given huge praise to Jorginho.

“He’s the sort of player that is a delight for a manager because he makes the team tick. He plays one touch football. He has a very good vision. He always knows where his next pass is before he receives the ball,” Di Matteo told Off The Ball.

Di Matteo’s Chelsea put in a heroic display to win the Champions League nine years ago. It was a squad stacked full of club legends that defied the odds in Munich.

In contrast, Chelsea’s class of 2021 put in a more complete performance in Porto a few months ago to win the club’s second ever Champions League crown.

Current Blues manager Tuchel has been the mastermind of the team’s success in 2021 and it looks like he’s only just getting started.

There is no doubt Jorginho has been one of the pivotal figures at Stamford Bridge during his tenure, along with the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and N’Golo Kante.

It’s a massive help for this current team that there are so many experienced heads within the group, so it makes it easier for all the young talents to shine.

Jorginho isn’t the fastest or most physical, but always seems a step ahead with his football brain. Also, it always gets overlooked what a leader he is.
