‘Doing their own work’: Sky journalist claims two injured Chelsea players trained separately on Friday morning

Chelsea duo Benoit Badiashile and Armando Broja were not involved in training with the first-team group on Friday morning.

That is according to Sky Sports journalist Gary Cotterill.

The Blues are currently preparing for this Sunday’s trip to Bournemouth, with the Premier League returning this weekend.

There’s been an excitement within the Chelsea fanbase that Benoit Badiashile and Armando Broja, who have been injured so far this season, could be on the verge of returns to the pitch.

However, the news this morning doesn’t sound too positive regarding their fitness to play Bournemouth.

Sky’s Gary Cotterill has reported via Football Daily that Badiashile and Broja trained separate from the squad on Friday.

They’re viewed as the players on the long injury list closest to a return, but perhaps Mauricio Pochettino may have to wait a little while still to use them.

Hopefully, Chelsea’s head coach gives some clarity on the players in his afternoon pre-match press conference.

“We were hoping to see them (Badiashile and Broja) out there because they’re the nearest of the injured players who are in partial training and potentially ready for a return,” Cotterill said.

“Benoit Badiashile, who’s been out with a hamstring problem. Armando Broja, who’s been out for 10 months with that serious knee injury. They’re not out there… I’m told they are away doing their own work. They have been training with the rest of the squad in partial training.”

The 22-year-old centre-back has been an excellent signing for the Blues, so his return will be a big boost to the side when that comes.

Meanwhile, journalist Nizaar Kinsella recently told the London Is Blue Podcast that Broja is “very close” to making his return from injury.

We expect the 22-year-old striker to put some serious pressure on Nicolas Jackson for a starting position once he’s fully fit and firing again.
