Micah Richards has praised Chelsea’s Levi Colwill after seeing his senior England debut a few days ago.

Levi Colwill, who’s a product of the Chelsea academy, is regarded by many as one of the most exciting young players around.

The 20-year-old defender is a nailed-on starter in Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues line-up so far this season.

In addition, he earned his first senior international cap during England’s 1-0 win over Australia last Friday.

Let’s see if he gets a second England cap when they face Italy on Tuesday night in an important European Championship qualifying match.

Micah Richards mentioned Chelsea’s young talent when assessing England’s recent win over Australia.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football’s YouTube channel, Richards said: “We talk about players coming into the squad and him (Southgate) knowing what they can do. I actually really enjoyed seeing [James] Maddison there linking up with [Jack] Grealish. Seeing what [Ollie] Watkins could do up-front. [Fikayo] Tomori getting a runout. Colwill doing well and making his debut… It was good to see fresh faces.”

Just like in the opening months of the season for Chelsea, Colwill played at left-back on his England debut.

He’s a recognised centre-back with a big future in the heart of defence, but he’s showing versatility by impressing at left-back in the past couple of months.

With Euro 2024 around the corner next summer, Colwill’s flexibility in defence should give him an extra boost when it comes to making the plane. Of course, Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions need to get the job done to qualify first.

Darren Bent recently tipped Colwill to be a future star in the England set-up, as quoted by talkSPORT.
