Very few people would’ve predicted Chelsea to be in their current position in the Premier League this close to Christmas.

Chelsea, guided by their brilliant head coach Enzo Maresca, have shocked people in the last few months.

As it stands, the Blues currently sit second in the Premier League. They’ll even temporarily leapfrog Liverpool and move to the summit if they win away at Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Jamie Carragher insists Chelsea are definitely title contenders in this season’s Premier League, but he thinks they’ll fall short because of a couple of weaknesses in defence.

Don Hutchison rates Chelsea’s chances of a top two finish

During a segment on ESPN, Don Hutchison was asked to give a percentage chance that Chelsea will finish in the top two of the Premier League this season.

He said: “50-50 between them (Chelsea) and Arsenal. I can’t give them any more than that.”

Hutchinson sees Liverpool as the likely outright winners of the Premier League, which leaves Chelsea and Arsenal battling it out for second spot.

Alan Shearer rates Chelsea as title challengers this season, but he still expects a blip and for them to fall short.

If Maresca’s side can end up finishing in the league’s top two positions, it would represent a massive season of progression for the young squad.

Chelsea fixtures can help cement spot

Let’s see if the Blues can extend their four-point gap over Arsenal during the festive schedule while also chasing down leaders Liverpool.

Here is a look at Chelsea’s next four league games:

On paper, Maresca’s side should be able to keep their recent momentum. They’re currently on a five-game winning streak in the league, which has put them in the title conversation.

However, away days in the Premier League can be tough and there’s no room for complacency.
