Chelsea had chances to win the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool over the weekend.

A couple of them fell to Conor Gallagher towards the end of the game, but he could not convert either.

For ESPN pundit Julien Laurens, who has been speaking on the The Gab & Juls Show, had those opportunities fallen to any other player, they would have scored two goals and won the game for Chelsea.

In the end, Virgil van Dijk was the only man on the pitch who was able to find the back of the net, beating Djordje Petrovic with a header to give Liverpool a 1-0 win and the League Cup trophy.

It was a huge opportunity missed for Chelsea, with their opponents having not been at full strength because of injuries.

Conor Gallagher should have won the Carabao Cup final for Chelsea

Laurens feels Gallagher had enough good chances to win Chelsea the League Cup final on Sunday.

Speaking about the game, he said: “I just wish for Chelsea fans and [Mauricio] Pochettino that the best chances didn’t end with Gallagher. You know how much I don’t rate Gallagher.

“I know he’s a runner, I know he’s an athlete and he’s more athletics than football, but if that ball had ended up with anybody else, he would have scored two goals.”

Conor Gallagher’s chances against Liverpool

Gallagher certainly did have a couple of opportunities to win the game for Chelsea. That includes a golden one where he practically had a one-v-one with Caoimhin Kelleher.

Credit to the Liverpool goalkeeper, who came out and made himself big, making it much harder for Gallagher to put the ball past him.

However, you have to wonder whether the midfielder could have taken a shot first time or maybe gone around the Irishman.

What’s done is done now. Gallagher will be looking to move on and hoping that Chelsea can go all the way in the other domestic cup, the FA Cup. His side are still in the competition, taking on Leeds United tomorrow.

Chelsea were actually willing to sell the England international last summer, slapping a £50m price tag on him, according to talkSPORT.
