Drinkwater Departure
Danny Drinkwater is said to be frustrated over his lack of playing time at Chelsea, and could consider a summer move – once the identity of the next Blues manager is settled. The Englishman has played sporadically since his £35 million move from Leicester City last summer, and hasn’t featured since the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at the end of February. Drinkwater could be tempted to leave the club after only a season, with N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas, and Tiemoue Bakayoko all ahead of him in the pecking order.
Seri Talks
Chelsea are set to have a midfield shake-up this summer. With Drinkwater likely to depart, doubts over Bakayoko’s performances, and Fabregas entering the final 12 months of his deal, the Blues have reportedly begun talks with OGC Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri. The Ivorian has a £35 million release clause in his contract, and has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona. Despite interest from elsewhere, it’s Chelsea who have made the first move for the 26-year-old.
Juventus want Morata
Another player that could be departing Stamford Bridge after only one season is Alvaro Morata. Reports are claiming that Juventus are interested in bringing the Spaniard back to the club. The striker spent two seasons in Turin before returning to Real Madrid, and eventually moving to the Blues in the summer of 2017 for a record fee of £58 million. Recent reports suggest that Chelsea could face a battle to keep hold of him in the upcoming window, with doubts over whether he has settled into English football. Morata has scored 14 goals in all competitions for Chelsea this season, and there is an expectation from the club that he would improve in his second season in English football. However, a big bid from the Serie A side could tempt the Blues should Morata ask to leave.
