Turkish businessman’s representative confirms bid to buy Chelsea

Turkish businessman Muhsin Bayrak has made an offer to Roman Abramovich to buy Chelsea, according to his representative.

Despite reports of expected bids for Chelsea, there has been very little information about these potential buyers.

Until very recently, a consortium headed by Todd Boehly, the part-owner of the LA Dodgers, and Hansjorg Wyss, a Swiss billionaire, had been the only possible suitors who confirmed their interest publicly.

Bayrak, the chairman of AB Grup, a construction company, has now apparently entered the frame.

“Yes we definitely confirm,” Bayrak’s representative told The Guardian about their rumoured interest in buying Chelsea.

“We have forwarded our offer regarding this to them.”

Similarly, speaking to Sky Sports, Bayrak’s spokesperson said: “First of all, yes the news is true. We submitted our offer.”

Bayrak himself has previously expressed his intention to buy the club to the Turkish media Yeni Safak.

“We are discussing the terms of Chelsea’s purchase with Roman Abramovich’s lawyers,” the businessman said on Friday.

“We’re negotiating signatures. We will soon fly the Turkish flag in London.”

The Guardian added that there could be up to 10 interested parties in a possible bidding war to buy the west London club.

Chelsea have asked Investment bank The Raine Group to help find potential buyers, and its co-founder Joe Ravitch insisted Abramovich is under no time pressure to make a decision.
