‘Elite’ Chelsea player aiming to be fit for their next Premier League game vs Bournemouth

Chelsea have begun to suffer from a similar fate that they did last season when it comes to injuries plaguing the squad.

Reece James was back on the treatment table before the season even got underway, although he wouldn’t of been available anyway due to a suspension carrying over from the last campaign.

It looks as if he has been joined there by Malo Gusto, who has pulled out of international duty with France due to a problem sustained in their last game against Crystal Palace.

It is not only the right-back position that has been impacted already this season, with one of their best performers of pre-season not featuring since the first game of the campaign.

Romeo Lavia really impressed in his first Premier League start against Manchester City. Trevoh Chalobah in particular was impressed with his display.

Romeo Lavia hopes to be fit for next Chelsea game

The Belgian has not yet featured since however due to injury, with Enzo Maresca originally hopeful that it would not be a long time off the pitch for him.

According to The Telegraph, the aim is for Lavia to be fit by the time the Blues are back in domestic action after the international break against Bournemouth.

Chelsea reportedly see Lavia as an ‘elite talent’, with there obviously being plenty of hopes for him to succeed as a Blue.

Competition for places in midfield at Chelsea

He faces a lot of competition for a regular place in the midfield at Stamford Bridge, with the £200m+ duo of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez regulars in the middle of the park.

Fernandez in particular is proving important for Enzo Maresca, with him donning the armband for every Premier League game so far this season.

Caicedo meanwhile could be operated in the unorthodox right-back position if neither of their natural options are fit, unless the boss puts the faith in Josh Acheampong to start his first Premier League game.
