Emerson has shared what Chelsea teammates Jorginho and Thiago Silva told him before his goalscoring performance against Atletico Madrid last Wednesday.

Remember that sweet celebration that Silva, Jorginho, and Mason Mount did in the stands after Emerson scored?

Mount might have not been part of the plan, but Silva and Jorginho were always expecting that particular goal, according to Emerson.

“It was hard to really get my head around it that day,” Emerson told Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte.

“I was very happy to be able to play in an important game like this and help us qualify.

“It was a great moment because of the reaction of my teammates.

“Jorginho had said that I was going to score a goal and Thiago Silva had told him that if I did, he’d throw himself off the stands.

“When the counter-attack happened, Thiago came down the stairs, followed the play and when the goal came, everyone erupted with joy.

“It was a very special moment.”

Well, thankfully Silva did not really throw himself off the stands but the goal did send him into raptures.

It is no secret that these three Brazil-born Chelsea stars are very close for obvious reasons.

Emerson opens up about competition at Chelsea

In his case, he has not been playing a lot with both Marcos Alonso and Ben Chilwell ahead of him in the pecking order.

He seems to be fine with it, however, as he shows professionalism that the fans would appreciate.

“For me this is good, because you are competing with the best players in the world,” the former Roma defender explained.

“Every day you have to do your best, and every day you have to dedicate yourself to the maximum, because you know that there is a guy there who is in your shadow, of a very high level.

“I’m alongside players from big national teams, I respect their work, and I’m respected too.

“And I think our group is very good, we have a very good unity, and we are living a moment of great joy after qualifying in the Champions League and the good sequence in the Premier League.”
