Enzo Fernandez has now done something no other Premier League player has achieved in 2023 after Chelsea recorded a 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Sunday.
That is according to WhoScored.
So, what did Enzo Fernandez do as Chelsea held Liverpool at Stamford Bridge? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the Argentina international was phenomenal against the Reds.
Fernandez seemed to cover every blade of grass, popping up all over the pitch to hurt Liverpool – even Jamie Carragher could not believe how direct the South American was going forward.
Aside from his intense pressing, the Chelsea No.8 is also an elite passer of the ball, and is actually out on his own as the best, most frequent, producer of accurate long range passes in the Premier League.

WhoScored believe Fernandez has now made 143 accurate long range passes in the Premier League throughout 2023, more than any other player in England’s top-flight.
With rapid forwards such as Mykhailo Mudryk and Nicolas Jackson making runs in behind on a regular basis, the Argentine’s vision could prove to be a valuable weapon for Mauricio Pochettino this season.
Enzo Fernandez could become 2023/24 Player of the Season at Chelsea
It may be quite early to make a call like this, but if Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool was anything to go by, Fernandez is set to have a special 2023/24 campaign.
The 22-year-old was electric on a day where Pochettino fielded him alongside the inexperienced Carney Chukwuemeka and also Conor Gallagher.

Both are strong footballers, but we would expect Fernandez to get even better when Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia start to play games for Chelsea.
In that respect, once the World Cup winner begins to play in a settled midfield alongside someone as effective as Caicedo, we see no reason why he cannot enjoy a truly spectacular campaign.
