Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has insisted that he is ready for the challenge that awaits in the Champions League this week.

He took to Twitter to state he is prepared as the Blues look ahead to a trip to the Bernabeu tomorrow.

Chelsea have been drawn against Real Madrid for the third time in as many years, with the winner of the tie in the previous two seasons going on to win the Champions League completely.

Fernandez played a key role in the Round of 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund, as the club pulled out their undoubted best performance of the season to complete a turnaround victory.

Now though, they face the test of the defending champions who just made light work of Liverpool in the last round.

It’s not as if the Blues are going into this game with any real form behind them. Their first game under Frank Lampard’s temporary charge saw them lose 1-0 to Wolves.

Nevertheless, they will be safe in the knowledge that a strong set of performances in Europe will keep the positivity amongst the fanbase, even if results domestically are attempting to do the opposite.

Fernandez has attempted to galvanise support by taking to Twitter to insist he and his teammates are prepared for the challenge that lies ahead.

He said: “New week. Ready for the Champions League.”

The Argentine is a certainty to start for the Blues tomorrow, maintaining his record of starting in every game possible since his club-record move in January.

Who he will be partnered by is a much more interesting question. N’golo Kante was rested completely for the defeat at the weekend at Molineux.

While he is only just returning from a lengthy lay-off, his ability was clearly not lost in his comeback game against Liverpool, and he could be crucial to achieving a result against Madrid.
