After the nightmare that ensued last season with players not being able to remain fit for Chelsea, supporters will be fearing everytime it looks like someone picks up a knock.

Last time it was the turn of Cole Palmer, who hobbled straight down the tunnel last night clutching his leg at full-time.

The England international has easily been the club’s most important player in the last last 12 months, and his status for the upcoming games will be seen by many as more important than last night’s result itself.

With Chelsea eventually running out 2-0 victors against Servette, it looks as if their luck was in as far as injuries go too.

Enzo Maresca stated after the game that they were optimistic that he would be able to take on Wolves on Sunday.

Maresca confident Palmer is not injured

He said to Football London: “Cole, he felt something but he looks fine. They already checked him, he looks fine and okay. Hopefully there is no problem and he can be available for Sunday’s game.”

It is not worth thinking about for Chelsea fans where they would have been last season without Palmer’s brilliance.

Even with the plethora of options at Maresca’s disposal this season, the England international will still be one of the first names on the teamsheet right now.

Palmer central could allow Noni Madueke to play vs Wolves

There is an argument that the boss can get more out of the attack if he chooses to play Palmer centrally, allowing someone else to come into the side as a more natural winger.

The obvious option for this role is Noni Madueke, with him having a very strong pre-season campaign over in the United States.

His fierce finish last night put the first leg beyond doubt for the Blues, with them now travelling to Switzerland with a comfortable advantage under their belt.

Despite rumours that he could be sold, Madueke is continuing to prove to be one of their most dangerous wide men right now.
