Enzo Maresca is expected to keep faith with Chelsea’s under-fire player in the immediate future.
It’s been a fairly positive start for Enzo Maresca in his role as Chelsea manager this season, but there’s definitely a few areas that he still needs to iron out.
The Blues suffered a 2-1 away defeat against Liverpool on Sunday to drop down to sixth in the Premier League table.
Chelsea were brilliant in possession versus Liverpool, but they left Anfield with zero points because they weren’t clinical enough in either penalty box.

Enzo Maresca will give Robert Sanchez more time
According to GiveMeSport, Maresca and his coaching staff are prepared to give Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez more time to impress.
It is explained that every player was given a clean slate in the summer following the change in the manager’s dugout. For now, the Blues are standing by their first-choice keeper at a time when he’s receiving some criticism for individual performances.
The report states that Sanchez will be granted more time to prove himself in-between the sticks, but he may only get this season before a new gloveman is signed. Apparently, Chelsea are not expected to replace the 26-year-old Spaniard in the January transfer window.
Robert Sanchez should feel the pressure
Chelsea fans certainly aren’t convinced by what they’re seeing from Sanchez in net. So far, we’ve had a real mix of performances from him in the opening months of the 2024/25 season.
The 6ft 6in goalkeeper has made a catalogue of outstanding saves in recent weeks, but that’s been combined with individual errors as well.
Jamie Carragher called Chelsea’s Sanchez “really poor” during the weekend defeat to Liverpool via Sky Sports Premier League.
Overall, we’re not sure Sanchez can be the long-term answer as the starting goalkeeper. Unless something drastically changes, he’s not got the confidence or quality with the ball at his feet to play out from the back like Maresca demands.
