Estevao Willian may only be 18, but that has not stopped Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca from putting his trust in him this season.

Estevao arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer, having not played in Europe before.

However, Maresca has already handed the winger seven appearances in all competitions, including four starts in the Premier League.

While Estevao has impressed so far, the Brazilian still has a lot to learn. Reece James was seen giving Estevao instructions during Chelsea‘s 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

Enzo Maresca praises Estevao Willian for showing quality at Chelsea

Estevao is yet to score a goal for Chelsea, while the teenager has registered just one assist.

Maresca, though, still thinks that Estevao’s quality is coming through and has been pleased with his performances.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League game against Benfica, Maresca told Chelsea’s official club website and other outlets: “He is doing very well. We have already said it’s not easy to come to Europe at 18 years old at a big club like Chelsea and show immediately the quality he has. We are very happy with him.

“He’s a very good boy, he’s happy, and he’s what we need in terms of energy.”

Maresca substituted Estevao in Chelsea’s previous match, which caused quite the reaction. Chelsea fans did not want Estevao to be withdrawn and expressed that on social media.

The Brazil international could start in the Blues’ game against Benfica, but Maresca has plenty of other attacking options, even with Cole Palmer out injured.

Estevao Willian has worst xG difference in Chelsea’s squad

Estevao will be quite disappointed that he has not grabbed his first competitive goal for Chelsea yet.

According to WhoScored, the former Palmeiras player has an xG difference of -0.97, which is the worst in Maresca’s squad. He has also taken six shots in the Premier League, leaving him just outside the top five Chelsea players for that area.

Ultimately, Estevao should have scored for Chelsea by now, but fans will continue to show him patience.

Estevao is still a young attacker who needs time to grow, while his overall attacking play has been pretty sharp. It should not be too long before he scores his first goal for the Club World Cup winners.
