Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has warned one player he needs to become far more consistent after his performance in Europe last night.
The Blues started their campaign in the Conference League on Thursday evening with a 2-0 home win against Servette. They’re playing the Swiss club in a two-legged play-off tie, so the teams will lock horns again next Thursday for the second leg.
For Enzo Maresca, he got his first competitive win under his belt since becoming Chelsea head coach in the summer. Next, his side travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday in the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca asks for consistency from Mykhailo Mudryk
Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk, 23, was pretty wasteful during his first appearance of the new season. He came into the starting line-up for the Servette tie, but his shooting was wayward and he lacked any end product.
Mudryk wasted his opportunity to impress against Servette, but his manager offered a philosophical reaction to his performance.
When asked if Mudryk needs to become more consistent, Maresca responded via Football.London: “I think this is Misha, this is Mudryk, in terms of not only tonight, but in terms of since he joined the club. I think he had some good moments and then some moments like flipping a coin. You don’t know if it’s one thing or the other thing.
“This is Misha. If he can become more consistent, he can take one step forward.”
Competition on the Chelsea wings
If Mudryk doesn’t sharpen up his end product, it’s hard to picture him nailing down a spot in Chelsea’s best line-up. It’s seven goals and four assists in 59 Chelsea appearances since he joined a year and a half ago, which in itself highlights his main problem in front of goal.
There’s been a mini revamp in the squad yet again this summer, so Mudryk has fresh competition for a starting position on the wing. The Blues have the likes of Mudryk, Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Cole Palmer who can all play in wide areas.
The next time Mudryk gets on the pitch, perhaps in the second leg against Servette next week, he’s simply got to do more in the final third.
Roberto De Zerbi described Mudryk as “smart” via LondonWorld back in May. Now is the time for the Ukraine star to develop and find consistency.
