Enzo Maresca will be more than content with his Chelsea side’s start to life in the Conference League group stages.

The Blues won 4-2 over Gent at Stamford Bridge, with there being 11 new players starting the game in comparison to their last win over Brighton in the Premier League.

A number of those players took their chance again, with Christopher Nkunku and Pedro Neto in particular impressing and giving the manager a serious decision to make.

There were a few first Chelsea goals tonight too, with Renato Veiga and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scoring for the club for the first time.

The midfielder in particular has struggled for minutes since joining the Blues over the summer. He was left out of the matchday squad at all for the win over Brighton.

Enzo Maresca delighted for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

It was therefore clearly a nice moment for him to open his Chelsea account late on, and his joy was shared by his manager who came with him from Leicester.

Simon Johnson has claimed that Maresca was as delighted as Dewsbury-Hall when he found the net.

He said: “Dewsbury-Hall’s first goal for the club now. Maresca celebrated it as much as the player did.”

There is no doubt talent in the midfielder that is yet to be tapped into by Chelsea. He was described as ‘amazing’ during his time at Leicester.

Difficult to break into Chelsea midfield

However, breaking into the midfield at Stamford Bridge at the moment is proving a difficult task, with Moises Caicedo in particular one of their top performers up to now.

There will be plenty of opportunities for him to prove himself in the coming weeks though, with games in multiple competitions coming thick and fast.

The togetherness in the squad right now is something that is a major positive right now, and the way the players celebrated every goal tonight suggests there is a good feeling going around the club at this stage.
