Steve Nicol has claimed that he would choose to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen over Tottenham’s Harry Kane in a straight battle between the two centre-forwards.
Victor Osimhen, who’s linked as a Chelsea target, is in marvelous form this season for Napoli in Italy. As for Harry Kane, he continues to consistently perform like he does every year in a Spurs shirt.
When asked who would be a better signing for Manchester United, Nicol told ESPN: “For me, you’ve got to chose Osimhen [over Kane]. He’s 24 years old. You are going to have him for a decade. Harry Kane, he’s going to cost you at least £100million and you’re going to have him for how long? At his very best three years maybe. Just from that point of view I think you’ve got to take Osimhen.”
The question may have come from a Man United angle, but it’s certainly of some relevance to Chelsea.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has told ‘The Done Deal Show’ that Chelsea will be in the race to sign Osimhen from Napoli this summer. He adds that the 24-year-old striker may cost as much as €150million (£133million).
Osimhen has 25 goals in 29 games this season across all competitions, proving he’s a real handful in both Serie A and the Champions League. But he is yet to test himself in the Premier League during his career.
Kane, who’s third on the Premier League’s top scorers list, is one of the elite strikers in Europe. However, aged, 29, it’s unlikely he’s got another decade of top-level football in him.
We would love to see Osimhen lining up in Chelsea colours next season.
He looks the complete package as a striker, which is why you can understand some comparisons to the legendary Didier Drogba.
The doubt some Chelsea fans may have would be over splashing another gigantic sum on a transfer fee, but they want to be as sure as possible their next No.9 signing is the one to end the striker curse.
