Steve Nicol is concerned that Cole Palmer won’t be the goalscorer that Chelsea’s squad desperately needs right now.

Chelsea have had a big problem in recent years when it comes to scoring goals, which is why it’s no big surprise the same issue is resurfacing at the start of this new season.

The Blues have added several new attackers to try help at Stamford Bridge, including Cole Palmer from Manchester City on the summer transfer’s deadline day.

Palmer, who’s just 21, arrives into Mauricio Pochettino’s squad as an exciting forward player with a lot of potential.

It feels like there will be some pressure on him to try deliver goals and assists from the very start, though.

ESPN pundit Nicol has a general concern about Chelsea that they’ve not got a single individual capable of stepping up and scoring a hatful of goals.

New Blues signing Palmer is one of several players he name-checked who he doubts will score a lot this season.

Nicol told ESPN: “Where are the goals coming from? Palmer is a wide guy. Is he going to be a goalscorer? No.”

We actually hold a bit more hope than Palmer can chip in with his fair share of goals to help a toothless Chelsea attack.

First of all, the England Under-21 international is a technically gifted left footer who plays as a right-winger or in a No 10 position.

He scored goals for fun at various age groups in Man City’s academy, but can he do that now at first-team level?

We think the youngster certainly looks more of a natural finisher on his left foot than a lot of his new Chelsea teammates.

He scored two goals in his opening three appearances this campaign before Man City sold him, so let’s now see if he can continue that kind of form in the Chelsea line-up.
