ESPN pundit says £39m Chelsea man has a lot to improve on despite performance vs Manchester City

Chelsea’s Axel Disasi still has loads to improve on despite a fantastic performance at the weekend versus Manchester City.

That is according to Don Hutchison.

Chelsea impressed last Saturday by earning a 1-1 draw away to Man City. In particular, Blues centre-back Axel Disasi was among the eye-catching performers.

Disasi, 25, produced a really solid display in the heart of defence.

The £39 million defender (Sky Sports) has been up and down during this debut season at Stamford Bridge, but we’ve noticed a big improvement in his individual levels lately.

Speaking via X at the weekend, John Terry said Disasi was “excellent” against Man City at the Etihad Stadium.

ESPN pundit Hutchison did praise Disasi for his latest contribution, but was quick to insist he’s still got a long way to go.

He told ESPN: “I think Disasi has quite a few flaws in his game. He had a great game at the weekend. Everything was hitting him, body on the line, it can look great. But the bigger picture is he needs a lot of work on his game in terms of where he is on the pitch, his decision-making, not diving in, not getting caught, not ball-watching.”

Axel Disasi must improve

It seems a bit harsh to dig Disasi out when he’s hit this mini purple patch of form. Our message to him is to just keep going and building on the recent success!

He’s needed to iron out a few errors that appeared in the first half of the season, something not helped by the fact he was covering out of position at right-back sometimes.

Now, we hope Disasi gets an extended run at centre-half to show his best quality.

The Frenchman’s suddenly becoming a fan favourite for his character and personality on the pitch, defending with such aggression in a similar way to Antonio Rudiger.

If he can deliver another man of the match performance in this weekend’s League Cup final versus Liverpool, it’ll really be lift off in his Chelsea career.
