ESPN pundit still not fully convinced by £40m Chelsea player, suggests he wasn’t good enough for his old club

Don Hutchison is not getting carried away with Cole Palmer’s fine start to life at Chelsea.

Cole Palmer has impressed at the Blues since joining from Manchester City in the summer, scoring in his side’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal over the weekend.

However, Hutchison, speaking on ESPN FC, says it is early days and thinks there is a reason why Pep Guardiola allowed him to leave the Etihad.

Palmer’s penalty against Arsenal was his second goal for his new club, with his first versus Burnley just before the international break having also come from the spot.

While Palmer is making an impact at Stamford Bridge, Hutchison has warned that it is still early days.

Discussing the attacker on ESPN FC, the former Liverpool man said: “I mean, it’s early days. There’ll be a reason why Guardiola thought he wasn’t going to be good enough for City.”

Why did Manchester City let Cole Palmer go?

Honestly, it does not feel like a matter of Palmer not being good enough for City. Guardiola had been using him and was getting something in return.

The 21-year-old scored in the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup for the Citizens before his £40m move to Chelsea (Sky Sports).

Palmer’s exit was probably more down to the fact that he had a desire to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side for more game time.

It was going to be difficult for the England U21 international to be a regular starter at City given all of the options Guardiola has.

Whatever the case, Chelsea will just be happy to have Palmer in their ranks because he is helping them right now.

In total, the former City man has come up with three goal contributions in six Premier League appearances for Chelsea and will be looking to build on that in his side’s next game, which is another London derby against Brentford.
