Chelsea have been dealt an away trip to Goodison Park for an opening day Premier League fixture with Frank Lampard’s Everton.

The fixture saw a slip up for Thomas Tuchel’s side last season, with Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell believing lightning could strike twice in August.

Last season, a Richarlison goal was enough to secure the Toffee’s a 1-0 win over the Blues, eventually proving to be the catalyst for their Premier League survival.

Goodison Park was electric for the crucial fixture back at the start of May, no doubt providing a boost for Lampard’s men.

The crowd are sure to play a part again, as they expect the club to build on a strong end to the season.

Former Toffees’ striker Campbell has claimed Everton have a chance at causing another upset, getting the Todd Boehly era off to the worst possible start.

He said: “Frank Lampard and Everton got a great result against Chelsea in the last fixture they played. To start the season it’s going to be another very tough game, but it’s one that Everton can win. They’ve proven they can win this game.”

Chelsea would certainly have been hoping for a fixture at Stamford Bridge to ease themselves into this season, similar to how last season played out with a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Goodison Park has certainly not been a happy hunting ground for the Blues in recent seasons, with the last four league meetings all going Everton’s way.

However, despite the challenges that have faced Chelsea in the past, these are the kind of games title favourites Manchester City and Liverpool will find a way to win, so it feels like the perfect opportunity for the Blues to announce their intentions to close the gap at the top this season.
