Fabrizio Romano has claimed that young star Deivid Washington now definitely wants to join Chelsea this summer.
He took to Twitter to claim that the Blues are now confident on closing that deal last week despite a scare to their efforts over the weekend.
It emerged late last week that Chelsea were keen to make Washington their next young addition to keep to the mantra being laid out by Todd Boehly.
The American has been keen to bring in some of the top talents from around the world since he took over just over a year ago.
It seems that priority has shifted to South American players who are showing great promise. They have already secured deals for Kendry Paez and Angelo Gabriel, who both look set to spend the upcoming campaign elsewhere.
Gabriel today was not handed a squad number in the club’s official announcement, which could be the biggest sign possible that a season at Ligue 1 side Strasbourg awaits.
Washington wants to join Chelsea
Over the weekend, reports claimed that there was a newfound danger that they may actually miss out on the deal for Washington after Monaco showed an interest in his services.
However, Romano has now claimed that the player is still keen to join Chelsea, even if it does include a move to the French feeder club as part of their plans.
He said: “Chelsea remain confident on closing Deivid Washington deal this week as Santos are expected to accept €20m final bid.
“Deivid wants to join Chelsea. Plan is to loan him to Strasbourg right after.”
Chelsea supporters will now be hoping that these purchases will not stop them making any big signings late in the window, with Moises Caicedo the notable name they want to bring in.
