Chelsea have not informed Roma or Tammy Abraham about triggering the buy-back clause for the striker this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Abraham, who was Chelsea’s top scorer in 2019/20, joined Roma in 2021 in a deal that includes a buy-back clause for Chelsea.

Unfortunately for the Blues, they have yet to find the replacement they would have hoped. Chelsea are even expected to be in the market for a new number nine this summer.

A recent report from The Athletic claims that Chelsea have retained an interest in the 25-year-old, while Manchester United have sent their scouts to monitor his progression.

However, according to Romano, nothing indicates that Chelsea will activate the clause, at least for now.

“In the contract between Roma and Chelsea, there is a clause – just for Chelsea,” the Italian journalist said on his YouTube channel when speaking about Abraham’s situation.

“Let me clarify, the clause is not valid for any other club. [It’s a] €80million (£71.3m) buy-back clause.

“So Chelsea can bring the player back to Stamford Bridge for that amount in the summer.

“But at the moment there is nothing advanced or concrete, so they have not communicated that they want to trigger the clause, but they have this possibility.

“There are also rumours about Manchester United’s [interest], but at the moment there are no concrete talks.”

Abraham’s record of 17 goals in Serie A in his first season at Roma is certainly impressive, but he has not been able to replicate his form this season.

He has so far registered six goals and three assists from 25 appearances (19 starts) in Serie A, which is a significant drop in output compared to last season.
