Ben Foster has made a comparison between Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Manchester City’s Phil Foden.

On paper, the two England stars share a lot of similar traits.

For starters, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden both went all the way through the Man City academy to their first team. They’re both left-footed attacking midfielders with fantastic technical skill and versatility, too.

Foden, 23, has been established as a senior star at the Etihad Stadium for several years. You could argue he’s become even more important for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

As for Palmer, the 21-year-old diverted from Foden’s path in the summer by leaving Man City and making a permanent transfer to Chelsea. His incredible form at Stamford Bridge has definitely justified that decision so far.

Ben Foster has just edged for Palmer over Foden when selecting his Premier League Team of the Season so far.

It’s interesting to hear him say that Chelsea’s new talisman reminds him of a younger version of Foden.

“I think Phil Foden is probably a better player [than Palmer]. I think he is a more rounded player and would offer you more…” Foster said on his YouTube channel.

“But for this season, for performances, hitting the ground running, making the transfer and step up, the age, all of the pressure that surrounded it, I think Cole Palmer is the guy that I would pick at No 10 [in the Team of the Season so far].

“17 Premier League appearances, eight goals is fantastic. Some big penalties, calmness on the ball. He looks like a young Phil Foden. He looks like he doesn’t really care, not fazed by it all. He just enjoys himself.”

We can definitely understand this comparison when you’re talking about two skilful creators that are just a joy to watch on the ball.

Palmer’s take a different route now by ditching Manchester for London, but it’s working out for both players.

Palmer has scored eight goals and made seven assists in 20 Chelsea appearance so far, quickly establishing himself as a talisman for the side.

Speaking in The Sun last week week, Troy Deeney called Chelsea star Palmer one of the best players on the planet already. We’re just delighted he’s fulfilling his potential in West London!
