'First port of call': Jamie Redknapp agrees with his dad about Chelsea star's inclusion at Euro 2020

Jamie Redknapp was pretty certain that Chelsea ace Mason Mount will return for England’s upcoming European Championship tie.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp had every faith that Gareth Southgate would recall Mount to face Ukraine on Saturday.

England have been without the Blues star for the last two matches while he served a period of self-isolation due to covid19 protocols.

The 22-year-old returned to his seat on the bench during his nation’s iconic win over Germany yesterday.

Southgate didn’t feel Mount was equipped properly for the game, considering he hadn’t trained with the squad for a while.

Now back and available, Redknapp felt Chelsea’s midfielder must come back into the team.

He said: “There’s a lot of different options. Now, against Ukraine, we might have to play in a slightly different way.

“They looked very tired after the game, they played extra time. It feels to me we need to get more attacking players onto the pitch.

“That would maybe mean Mason Mount is his first port of call. He started the other games before he picked up his ban from covid.

“I think it’s a situation that I think Mason Mount will certainly start.”

Like father like son, Harry Redknapp was also in the same mind-set about Mount’s inclusion.

“I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Mason Mount back in the team,” Redknapp senior told Good Morning Britain.

“I think Gareth’s a big fan of his as we all are.”

It wouldn’t be too brave a call to say Southgate is a big admirer of Mount.

Until his period of segregation, the Chelsea academy product had featured in all but two England games since last September.

What isn’t clear is who he should replace in the team.

Bukayo Saka and Jack Grealish have both made claims for a starting role, while Phil Foden continues to knock on the door.
