Former Chelsea duo Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner reunite at the World Cup

Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic may no longer be at Chelsea, but that hasn’t stopped them from reminiscing on their time together.

During their time together at Chelsea from 2020 to 2022, Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner faced contrasting individual spells.

Werner arrived with high expectations; though his Premier League finishing was often scrutinised, his work rate and intelligent movement did catch the eye. But, ultimately, he was a flop.

Meanwhile, Pulisic was definitely the better of the two. His best period came during the 2019–20 “Project Restart” era, where he helped Chelsea’s attack to secure Champions League qualification. Consistently stepping up on the biggest stages, becoming the first American to score in a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid, and later assisting Mason Mount’s sealing goal in the second leg.

The USMNT X account wasted no time in capturing a video of Pulisic and Werner reuniting, which sees the pair embrace each other and then swap a United States shirt for a San Jose Earthquakes shirt.

Timo Werner has found a new lease on life since joining the San Jose Earthquakes as a Designated Player, making an instant impact in MLS with four goals in his first seven appearances.

Whilst Christian Pulisic has been the main man in the United States’ attack at the 2026 World Cup. After starring with an assist in an opening win against Paraguay, he managed a minor calf tweak before returning to full fitness ahead of the knockout rounds.
