While Chelsea’s form of late has been poor, one of their former youngsters and his new club have not done too badly recently.

Chelsea themselves suffered another bad result on Saturday after losing 2-1 to Aston Villa.

Enzo Maresca‘s men took the lead in the ninth minute after some good work by Pedro Neto and goalscorer Enzo Fernandez. After the match, Maresca highlighted Neto’s impact, stating that the winger had a great game.

However, it was not enough following Marco Asensio’s brace, which gave Villa all three points.

Charlie Webster scores winner for Burton Albion against Lincoln City

Chelsea could not find a winner when their game with Villa was level at 1-1, but Charlie Webster could in Burton Albion’s 1-0 victory over Lincoln City.

In the 92nd minute, the midfielder popped up in Lincoln’s box and put a shot away that Frank Lampard would have been proud of.

It was Webster’s fourth goal in League One and fifth in all competitions this season. Burton signed the 21-year-old from Chelsea on a three-year deal last June.

On the subject of Lampard, the Chelsea legend is also doing well in the EFL, guiding Coventry City to another victory on Saturday.

Coventry beat Preston North End 2-1 to end a run of 17-and-a-half years without a win against them.

Both Lampard and Webster, then, are flourishing away from Chelsea, which is probably not the best place to be right now.

Charlie Webster impressed Thomas Tuchel

Webster never got to make a first-team appearance during his time at Chelsea. However, there was one occasion where he seemed to impress former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel.

During one training session at Cobham a couple of years ago, Webster played a nice one-two with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, which resulted in Tuchel saying “very, very good guys” as he concluded the session.

Webster is now getting the opportunity to replicate that kind of play at competitive level in the men’s game.

He is playing regularly for Burton this season, making 17 starts in League One under Gary Bowyer, which is aiding his development.
