While the current Chelsea squad are under immense pressure to deliver results every time they take to the pitch, one of their club icons is having no such trouble with big results in 2025.

Frank Lampard is close to completing an immense turnaround in his job as Coventry City manager, with them currently sat in the playoff spots in the Championship.

The former Blues midfielder took over the club when they were right down the other end of the table, and his run of form has had Chelsea fans comparing Lampard to Enzo Maresca.

The Sky Blues have been making history along the way with their new man in charge. Lampard led them to eight wins in nine games earlier this year, a run they have not gone on in more than half a century.

Frank Lampard goes crazy as Coventry secure key last-minute win

Coventry returned to the top six on Wednesday night with another victory, this time at home to Portsmouth.

As has become a bit of a theme in the Chelsea legend’s time in charge, his side left it late before finding the winning goal, scoring in the 94th minute at home.

Lampard was unable to contain his emotion when the ball hit the net, setting off down the touchline to celebrate in a style which would remind Chelsea fans of the likes of Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.

The Englishman has now won 14 of his 24 games as manager with Coventry, and they have a genuine chance of promotion if they can be in the top six in five games’ time.

Tim Sherwood ‘jealous’ of Frank Lampard

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood was providing punditry for the game for Sky Sports, and understood exactly the feeling Lampard would have enjoyed following the last-gasp goal.

He admitted he was even jealous of the former Chelsea player and manager for still being able to experience those moments on matchday.

“There’s nothing like that, I feel it for him. I’m quite happy sitting here at the moment, but I’m jealous. I’m jealous of that moment in time, but if I’m John Mousinho, I’m certainly not jealous.

“Your heart sinks, your team have put everything on the line, you’re fighting to stay in the division, and you get done by a last minute goal like that.”

Coventry will be back in action on Monday night, making the trip to Hull City.
