Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has delivered a glowing verdict of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who he claims is one of the most exciting English midfielders around.
The 24-year-old hasn’t played a single first-team minute this campaign due to a long-term injury absence, but he’s now back training with the senior squad.
He was an unused substitute for the Blues in the Premier League win over Tottenham last weekend, while he didn’t make the match day squad for the midweek defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of a last 16 Champions League tie.
Chelsea will be looking to strengthen their fourth-placed spot in the Premier League this weekend when they travel to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
They lost the reverse fixture 1-0 at Stamford Bridge back in December and revenge has to be in the minds of the players.
Lampard has explained in his pre-match press conference that Loftus-Cheek is in the squad for the trip to Bournemouth.
“Ruben is in the squad again tomorrow. It would mean a lot for him. It is a lonely place to be injured. With the ability that he has got he is one of the most exciting English midfield players,” Lampard said, as quoted by Football.London.
Loftus-Cheek is in the one individual in the Chelsea squad that fans are desperate to see back in action, but they have to be patient following his Achilles problem.
It seems unlikely that he will be thrown into a starting XI anytime soon, but it would be a major boost if he got some action off the bench against Bournemouth.
He’s exactly what the Blues are missing right now in terms of creativity from the centre of the park and the central midfielder has shown in the past he can be a decent goal threat.
The Englishman has 10 senior international caps for his country and would surely have more if not for his bad injury luck.
