Callum Hudson-Odoi has had his critics this season. Since returning from a ruptured achilles, he has struggled to recapture the form he displayed in 2018/19. However, Sunday’s game against Nottingham Forest saw CHO put in a much better display.

He capped off an impressive Chelsea move in the sixth minute with a bottom corner finish to open the scoring early on. The 19-year-old was a constant threat for the remainder of the game and showed everyone why he is considered one of Chelsea’s, and England’s hottest prospects.

When speaking after the game, Lampard was keen to praise the youngster: ”It was a good performance: pleased to see him high up the pitch, pleased to see him being aggressive wanting to get at people, that’s what he is there for. He gets his goal, a great strike.

”It’s been an interesting 12 months for him. When you consider how young he is, you have to take that into account. Last year everyone was talking about him for different reasons, he got a terrible injury, he came back very early. When he did come back there will still issues getting him absolutely tip-top. Then he’s in the spotlight because of his new contract and who he is.”

Fans will be hoping this performance kick-starts a hot run of form for Hudson-Odoi. There is a lot more to come from the young Englishman, and fans need to be patient with him. He is not even 20 yet and will come on leaps and bounds in the next few years. He needs regular opportunities to get his confidence back.

Once he is playing without fear again, Hudson-Odoi will be a crucial player for this Chelsea side.
