Chelsea today confirmed the temporary departure of defender Tomas Kalas to Championship side Bristol City.

Kalas joined the Blues back in 2010 and has featured just four times in total for the club.

Kalas has never really convinced any of the club’s former managers of his worth, with big money being spent on the likes of David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger in recent years.

The club have loaned Kalas out to five different clubs across the past eight years.

They are former club Sigma Olomouc, Vitesse, FC Koln, Middlesbrough and Fulham (both twice).

Chelsea are now farming out the £5.2 million signing once again – this time to Bristol City in the English second tier.

The 25-year-old follows fellow Chelsea loanee Jay Dasilva to Ashton Gate.

Is he ever going to make it at Stamford Bridge?

It has to be said, it doesn’t make for promising reading that he’s only made four appearances in the last eight years.

It seems quite strange that the club are continually loaning him out.

Surely the club should know by now whether he could do a job in the first team or he just needs to be sold.

At one stage he looked likely following his brilliant display in the famous 2-0 win over Liverpool in the 2013/14 season.

Andreas Christensen looks to have developed into the player the club perhaps envisaged he’d become.

The news has frustrated some Chelsea fans online.

They feel as though the club are simply wasting time and should just grant him a permanent move away:
