Cole Palmer has praised team-mate Nicolas Jackson after the striker’s goal in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion last night.

It sent the Blues into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, where they will play Blackburn Rovers, and Cole Palmer was impressed with what he saw from Nicolas Jackson at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after the game, the attacking midfielder said: “Full credit to him, it was a great finish and he deserved that. He had a couple of chances before his goal that he didn’t take but he didn’t shy away and on another night he could have scored more than just the one. I’m really pleased for Nico.”

Jackson’s winner versus Brighton saw him end his goal drought, with the 22-year-old having not scored since Chelsea’s victory over Luton Town in the Premier League last month.

He will not have the chance to build on it when his side take on Fulham on Monday, though, as he will be serving a suspension after picking up five yellow cards.

Important goal

Jackson and Chelsea both needed that goal against Roberto De Zerbi’s team.

The Senegal international and his teammates have not made the best start to the season. That was only his second strike in blue, while Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently find themselves 14th in the Premier League table with just one win.

Jackson’s goal and the victory versus Brighton, who have become a really good outfit under De Zerbi, should give everyone a confidence boost.

Hopefully this is a turning point in Chelsea’s campaign, which has been a pretty depressing one so far.

And the same goes for Jackson, who cost his current employers £32m after joining them from Villarreal during the summer. It would be great if he could really kick on now and fire Chelsea up the table.
