Chelsea have made it clear that they see Cole Palmer as an ‘untouchable’ member of the playing squad, but ahead of the summer window, Gary Neville has had his say.
Palmer has endured his worst season in Chelsea blue. His first year at Stamford Bridge saw Palmer have a hand in 42 goals and assists in 48 games for Chelsea. In the second, he finished eighth in the Ballon d’Or.
Has Cole Palmer been wronged? Or is it just deserved for his poor form?🤔
But the most recent season has not been a success. Perhaps a victim of his own success, Palmer has not replicated the form he produced in his first two seasons at Chelsea as he contends with playing injured.
Alan Shearer described it as a “horrible position” to be in, yet Palmer’s lack of form saw him omitted from England’s World Cup squad. Palmer’s lack of form has coincided with questions about his Chelsea future.
Gary Neville thinks he knows where Cole Palmer will end up
As aforementioned, Chelsea have no plans to sell Palmer. The Blues see Palmer as an ‘untouchable’ alongside the likes of Joao Pedro and Josh Acheampong. But, Chelsea have set an asking price for him.
Indeed, Chelsea want £150m for Palmer. A fee that would provide the Blues with a massive profit but could see them lose a game-changer. Man United are among the clubs strongly linked with Palmer.
Earlier this year, Palmer’s friend said a move to Man United was likely this summer. Nothing has emerged, and Man United have already signed another midfielder, Brazilian star Ederson from Italy’s Atalanta.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Gary Neville declared that Palmer would be a stunning addition for Man United but believes the former Man City star will remain in West London this summer.
“Those types of signings are good. There’s talk of Cole Palmer and that looks like a signing that could be gold for Manchester United if he came to Old Trafford,” Neville said, amid the links with Palmer.
“I don’t think it would happen though, I think Chelsea will hang onto him. But there’s very few signings like that available, it’s only every few years that these type of players become available,” he added.
Why Chelsea have got to keep Cole Palmer this summer
For the last three summers, Palmer has been very busy. The groin injury that he has had to contend with while still playing two games a week at times is likely to play a part in picking up that groin issue.
You can only keep one, Enzo Fernandez or Cole Palmer. Who are you choosing?
Tell us who but also why!
The U21 European Championships in 2023, the European Championships in 2024 in which Palmer scored England’s goal in the final against Spain, and then the Club World Cup in 2025. He’s simply had no rest.
For the first time in four years, Palmer has finally got a couple of months off. A time to rest, a time to relax and a time to let his groin heal properly. It will give the England star the chance to shine next season.
That is why Chelsea cannot entertain offers for him this summer. Yes, a £150m offer should be considered, but the chances of any club paying that are small. Palmer can become his best self again next season.
