Billy Gilmour gained the endearing gaze of Chelsea supporters on social media for his Norwich City performance last night.

Although the Canaries had their feathers plucked by Liverpool in the EFL Cup contest, Gilmour gave his all in an effort to salvage a result.

Carrow Road hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Scotsman since his loan switch from Stamford Bridge in the summer.

His only taste of triumph in yellow and green came in the previous round of the EFL Cup, a 6-0 battering of Championship side Bournemouth.

Even then, the 20-year-old only played 19 minutes.

Yesterday’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool marked the fifth defeat of Gilmour’s brief Norwich career.

Chelsea fans, however, saw it as something of a success as they were allowed to enjoy their miniature midfielder strutting his stuff once again.

Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:

Can we have the Bill, please?

That first full win will taste like the sweetest nectar for Gilmour.

To achieve that, he must continue to orchestrate and conduct Daniel Farke’s midfield, no matter the strength of opposition.

He has already crafted this art while representing the Scotland national team.

During the international break, the Cobham academy graduate earned an A+ for his trio of performances.

Gathering so many air miles made Gilmour miss the first Premier League fixture after the interlude, a winnable tie against a struggling Arsenal side.

The Gunners pinched a 1-0 victory, leaving Norwich even further adrift at the foot of the mountain.

Relegation is already rearing its ugly head, which would leave a stain on Gilmour’s CV.

It may also dent his chances of returning to Chelsea next season.

Take Ethan Ampadu, for example.

Demoted while on loan at Sheffield United, he was removed from Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the current campaign.
