Plenty of Chelsea supporters on social media were convinced they should buy Robert Lewandowski after last night’s European Championship exhibition.

It was a huge evening for Poland, who were aware that anything other than a victory over Sweden would dump them out of the tournament.

Their quest couldn’t have started much worse, conceding after two minutes and then again just before the hour mark.

But up stepped their super hero captain to almost save the day.

Lewandowski scored twice in the second half to haul his nation back to possible qualification.

Sweden eventually shattered Polish dreams by sealing the win in injury time, yet Bayern Munich’s no.9 had left his imprint on the competition.

Blues fans had seen enough evidence from the 32-year-old to make him a suitable signing for Stamford Bridge.

Polish perfection

Chelsea’s search for a new striker continues to rumble on into the summer transfer window.

Erling Haaland is their top prize, but another man just might take Roman Abramovich’s fancy.

BILD recently reported that, if the Blues do not land Haaland, they will instead turn to Lewandowski.

Certainly not a bad trade in any sense of the imagination.

The towering Pole bagged 48 goals last season, seven more than his Borussia Dortmund rival.

He will also come at a considerably cheaper fee, with ESPN stating Bayern will ask for around €60m (£51.6m).

However, they might crank up the price knowing Chelsea’s desperation for a fresh centre-forward.
