‘Getting dropped’: Some Chelsea fans fear for 20-year-old if he links up with former manager

Chelsea supporters were anxious for Callum Hudson-Odoi’s international future after news emerged linking Frank Lampard to the England U21s job.

The Daily Mail reported that Lampard was being lined up as a potential replacement for Aidy Boothroyd, following the young Three Lions’ poor performances at the U21 European Championships.

This could potentially mean a reunion between the former Chelsea manager and Hudson-Odoi, a thought that struck fear into the heart of many Blues fans.

Hudson-Odoi worked with Lampard for less than two seasons before the latter was replaced by Thomas Tuchel in January.

The 20-year-old was in and out of the Chelsea team whilst the clubs all-time record goal scorer was in charge.

His future at Stamford Bridge was cast into doubt when Bayern Munich made numerous approaches for the talented forward, including a bid that Chelsea rejected last October (Sky Sports).

Only since Tuchel took over has Hudson-Odoi rediscovered his permanent position within the Blues system.

He started just two Premier League games before Lampard’s sacking. He’s started seven of the ten league fixtures following his exit.

This sustained run in the side can be credited to Tuchel’s ability to transform him from traditional attacking forward to auxiliary wing-back.

No such guarantees could be made if Lampard was appointed U21s coach, so it’s certainly a development to keep an eye on.
